Layers of Resistance

‘Layers Of Resistance’ is a new series of textile works by Tant. In this period of political and social uncertainty, the national flag becomes a charged and contested object. Though it remains the same and represents the same nation, it comes to symbolise rapidly shifting values and territories.

What is it about a flag – a simple representation in anembroidered, woven or painted piece of cloth – that manages to evoke such strong emotions? This new work approaches this question.
